The Royal Knight, Ulrich of Klum, is investigating a series of murders at Wartenburg Castle. The victims are the Franconian merchant, the local provost, and ultimately Lord Markvart of Wartenbug himself, threatening the upcoming wedding of his daughter, Ludmila, intended to reconcile the warring families of the bride and groom. The intrigues of Lord Markvart’s widow Klara as well as Ludmila's barely concealed love for Ulrich, complicate’s the entire investigation and his life is seriously menaced by those who want him out of the way so that his investigation will not succeed.
