CARUSO - A LIVING NOVEL
A Fellini' s-style bitter comedy based on a true story about a busker living in the Mediterranean provincial town of Split before WW II, where the locals jokingly call this naive singer with a great voice, Caruso.
The main character, Dino, is the last descendant of a local wealthy aristocratic family, a family that has gone into a decline. Dino expresses his last revolt against his own life and society in his "novel live", which leads in turn to the dramatic manipulation of a real human being – Caruso.
Strong contrasts faithfully reflect the Adriatic environment and peculiar local mentality. The beauty of nature and the architectural heritage of the ancient and medieval town of Split are accompanied by superb opera arias, which provide soaring contrasts to tragicomic events.
